Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit we commit ourselves:
- To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible Study - To support the mission of the Church Worldwide - To work for justice and peace and - To build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church, USA, and witnesses to the promise of God's Kingdom.
NEXT MEETING
On Thursday, September 9, Bob Beard will share his experiences with the home-less of Wichita as we meet for lunch at noon and program at 1:00 pm. Hostesses are Darlene Roe and Nora Coryell with devotions by Nora. A nursery is available for your little ones. Come enjoy the fellowship!
Each year since 1922 Presbyterian Women have taken a birthday offering designated to help those in need around the world, especially women and children. This year, we will receive the offering at our Sisters in Christ Banquet on May 13th.
The projects chosen are Kindergarten and Childcare Center, Primary School Development, Kirkkuk, Iraq and Peace Presbyterian Church's R.I.S.E. (Reach-Improve-Strengthen-Empower) Project, Louisville, Kentucky.
Kindergarten and Childcare Center provides high quality education to children, teaching basic skills in a loving environment. Operated under Christian principles of love, peace, tolerance and nonviolence, it is a welcome institution in its Middle Eastern context. Already at full capacity, the center hopes to expand, adding a primary school on a nearby property.
Peace Presbyterian Church R.I.S.E. Project provides services specifically to children, youth, adults and families identified as at-risk or in need of support during a transitional period. Their programs include: Kids Café-an after-school program predominantly for children who live in single-parent families; Project Hope provides food for people who are homeless as well as Alcohol and Narcotics Anonymous counseling services; Family to Family Visitation oversees supervised visits between children in foster care and their biological parents and Families in Transition provides counseling for couples and their children to help them cope with problems that result from divorce.
Monthly Mission Project:
Presbyterian Women‟s monthly mission project for September is Brotherhood Presbyterian Pre-School. The Pre-School, begun in 1974, serves low-income families in the neighborhood of 13th and Grove Streets in Wichita. They have morning and afternoon classes of 18 children each. The following items would benefit their program: Paper Products: Toilet tissue, paper towels, Kleenex, small paper plates, Paper napkins. Snack items for students: Graham crackers, saltine crackers, Cheez-it Crackers, creamy peanut butter, jelly and Juicy-Juice brand fruit drink. Members of the congregation are invited to join us in this outreach ministry. Place items on designated table in Keating Hall through Sunday, September 26.
BUY DILLONS CERTIFICATES - HELP MISSION PROJECTS
If you are a Dillon's shopper, we invite you to join in this project. The church purchases the gift certificates at a 4% discount and sells them for face value. Therefore, we earn $4 for every $100 sold. The certificates can be used for anything that you buy at Dillon's - groceries, prescription drugs, gasoline, etc.
The certificates are on sale every Sunday from 10:30 to 11:00 am in Keating Hall. This is a change due to the new times for worship services. If you would like to buy some other than on Sunday, call Nora Coryell at 733-5531 and we can arrange another time.
